It is not uncommon for new puppies not to eat the first day. We feed them well before leaving and sometimes the excitement will keep them from eating right away, don't panic. They should eat the next morning. If not you can give them diced rotisserie chicken.
We use Nutri-Source Puppy Food (chicken & rice) https://nutrisourcepetfoods.com/where-to-buye

NOTICE: THE DATE POSTED FOR PICK UP IS THE EARLIEST DATE THAT A PUPPY CAN BE PICKED UP BY LAW AT 8 WEEKS. This is an projected date, the puppy may or may not be ready to go. Havanese are a delicate breed and often will not gain weight after weaning at a rate that we feel safe letting them go to new homes. The stress might and cause the puppy to go into Hypoglycemia. The puppy may need to stay an additional week, possibly two. This is for the best interest of the puppy. No one wants to take a new puppy home and over stimulate it and cause it to get lifeless, lethargic and go into hypoglycemic shock. Please understand that your puppy may not come home at the exact date it turns 8-9 weeks old, that is just the earliest date it can leave, not even one day earlier.

Due to safety precautions we are not meeting in person with the puppies, until the puppies are ready to go at 8 weeks old and have had 2 series of vaccinations. This reduces the stress on puppies, and the risk of meeting new people. All meetings are to take place in a public place. Since we are a state licensed breeder, we have to follow the guidelines recommended.
I totally understand if you do not want to do it that way. The only way we hold puppies is with a deposit.
You can check back with us when they are 8 weeks old, and if we still have any puppies, you can see them in person then. We are sorry for any inconvenience but that is the way it is being done now for the safety of buyer, seller or puppies.
Thank you for understanding.

NOTICE: When multiple applications come in on the same puppy we contact the first approved application, and then move down the list. Some applications, take longer to verify. If they have missing information, this can delay your application. This is the fairest way we have found to place our puppies. Due to the high demand of puppies, our process has changed, a puppy is not held for you to decide, if no commitment is made by you the puppy is still for sale.
The first applicant is sent a deposit contract, usually within 2 hours then given 2 hours to make deposit once the contract was emailed to them. This is about a 4 hour process. If they fail it make the deposit then we move to the next application. Same process, some times we may go through 5 or 6 applications before someone makes a commitment. Once a deposit is made the puppy is no longer for sale it is "Sale Pending".
If the buyer fails to pick him up at 8 weeks or the arranged date, he would then again be offered to the next in line. I get a sizable deposit so that seldom happens unless some tragedy. If there are multiple people wanting the same puppy, after the first contact, the puppy is available if the first person did not make a commitment and request a deposit contract be emailed to them. If you are serious about a puppy, please make that clear. Don't say I have to talk to my spouse, then get upset, if someone else places a deposit before you. Once I send a contract (after you request it, I will not take a deposit from someone else). If this is unclear please ask questions.
I do my best to find the best most compatible homes for each puppy.

Most puppies come with APRI registration, current shot/dewormings with records and puppy food sample. ACA registration is included with the microchip fee, also. If you want AKC registration, AKC will normally dual register an APRI puppy, by sending in a copy of the APRI registration papers. We do not provide AKC registration.

The Havenese is the national dog of Cuba. In 1492 Christopher Columbus raised the flag of Spain on this island. While researching ships logs we find that little dogs were brought along and found their way into the homes of the Spanish aristocracy. They developed to the climate of the tropics and are very heat tolerant.
Once called the Havana silk dog their coat is like silk strands, long and thick, but light and very soft. This protected them from the hot tropical sun. Their hair was left in their face to protect their eyes as well. Europeans began bringing these little dogs back with them after visiting the now great cultural colony of Cuba. They are present in many portraits of that period. Queen Victoria and Charles Dickens were notable owners of Havanese dogs. The remaining Havanese in the world today, with the exception of some few in Europe, come from 11 immigrants that escaped to this country during the Cuban revolution. They became a VERY rare breed and to this day, in comparison to other breeds, are very small in number.
Originally from the Mediterranean, the Havanese was introduced to Cuba in the 1500. These sweet, comical little dogs quickly became the beloved, pampered pets of the Cuban aristocracy The Cuban revolution was detrimental to the breed, however, when these wealthy families were forced to flee, bringing their precious pets with them. Dorothy Goodale is responsible for bring the breed back from the brink of extinction. She tracked down 11 dogs and breathed new life into this breed. They grew quickly in popularity and became AKC recognized in January 1999.

We try to update pictures every two weeks, we do not take pictures daily, we do not do videos.
We never take pictures of a puppy unbathed, in order to bathe, dry and photograph a puppy we do the whole litter, so all puppies are retuned to mom, smelling the same. We don't want to upset mom, by taking puppies and then bringing them back smelling different. Often things can upset a mom and she can injure a puppy for unknown reasons. We keep our nursery area quite warm and drastic changes in temperature can make puppies sick, another reason we don't bother our young puppies, too often. There are times we have multiple litters of puppies and we never mix the puppies, so when handling one litter we don't handle another litter. Keep in mind, the families with deposits on the other puppies, also want pictures of their puppies, we try to be equally fair to all. We are taking every precaution to keep your puppy safe and healthy so he/she is ready to come home to you at the scheduled date. There are often times, that we had new moms whelping and we don't want to upset her, while shuffling neighboring puppies in and out. Please respect our routine. We had rather care for our babies, than to be taking excessive photo request and videos.

YOUR PUPPY MUST EAT EVERY DAY EVEN IF YOU HAVE TO HAND FEED. TOY BREED PUPPIES require extra supervision, warmth, and supplemental hand feedings. Puppies go through a lot of stress when they are taken away from their siblings and go to their new homes.
HYPOGLYCEMIA or low blood sugar is a common problem with all toy breed puppies. Hypoglycemia is the medical term for low blood sugar, which is a condition in which there is a drastic, sudden drop in the level of blood sugar in the puppy. In small breed puppies from post-weaning to 4 months of age, the most common form of hypoglycemia is called Transient Juvenile Hypoglycemia: "Transient" because the symptoms can be reversed by eating. "Juvenile" because it is seen in young puppies. Veterinarians unfamiliar with toys often mis-diagnose the condition. As a toy puppy pet owner, it is important to recognize the symptoms of hypoglycemia and know how to treat it. Hypoglycemia is easily treatable in the early stages, but fatal if allowed to progress. Many puppies are lost needlessly to hypoglycemia because of inexperience on the part of their owner or veterinarian.
VERY IMPORTANT: If your puppy is not eating or drinking water owners should SYRINGE feed their new pups 3 to 4 times a day, approximately 5 CC's per feeding - 15 to 20 CC's total per day - Gerber's chicken baby food mixed with Karo syrup for the first 10 to 14 days after receiving their new pup and they will never have a sick pup.. Draw the baby food up into the syringe and disperse into the puppy's mouth. Creamy peanut butter on the roof of their mouths a few times a day works wonders! These puppies are very stressed from leaving the home they have always known, their litter mates and their routine, so they sometimes do not eat.
THE MOST IMPORTANT rule is to always have food and water available for your puppy at all times and be sure you actually see them eating. If your pup won't eat dry kibble dog food, then cooked hamburger or chicken breast, cut up in tiny pieces. You can hand feed it every 3-4 hours during the day if you are not sure whether it is eating at all with the mixture above......from the time they wake up until the time they go to bed. A high quality food is a must. Toy Breeds must replenish their energy more frequently than larger puppies. Hypoglycemia, sometimes called sugar shock, low blood sugar (as in a diabetic), is a condition where the blood sugar level drops to an extremely low level, usually due to lack of food, or by using up all stored energy without it being replenished(playing/running for extended periods of time, shivering out of nervousness or being chilled, stress, etc.) They can end up with hypoglycemia. Toys are prone to this because they have such tiny digestive systems and can only store a little bit of food (energy) in their bodies at one time. THEY MUST EAT!
IT IS ALWAYS easier to PREVENT hypoglycemia than treat it...always make sure your toy breed puppy is eating every 3-4 hours, even if only a small amount and even if you have to hand feed. Just having food available is not always good enough. Nutri-Cal (a low volume paste vitamin/mineral supplement for show, working, or dogs under stress) is highly recommended to feed 1-3 pea size globs 3-5 times a day - especially first thing in the morning and last thing before bedtime. If your toy puppy is handled a lot by other people or has a rousing/energetic time of play then give some Nutri-Cal at playtime. When your toy puppy matures he or she may not need Nutri-Cal and should be able to go 3-5 hrs. Without eating if they are not having an active day. Keep it with you at all times.
SYMPTOMS OF HYPOGLYCEMIA, your puppy may exhibit one or more of these signs. Listlessness, weakness, won't get up and play. The gums of a normal puppy will be bright reddish/pink just like human gums....gums that are pale in places or light pink means the blood sugar levels are dropping. If the gums are white...your pup needs quick attention to avoid a hypoglycemic coma. If they are white I recommend Karo syrup on the tongue 1 CC every 15 min. until the gums return to the normal pink color(3 CC's max in the first hour). Another sign that is usually seen is vomiting on an empty stomach (clear liquid or bile) or saliva (foamy at the mouth). If your pup has not eaten in a while give it food or waffle syrup immediately. Other signs are acting listless, walking unsteady, shakiness, falling over and in extreme cases laying on their side and unresponsive. This is extreme and you must pry their mouth open and give waffle syrup. Karo corn syrup, sugar water or Nutri-Cal to raise the blood sugar quickly or coma and death will result. After giving the syrup you should see improvement and the pup should be alert in about 10 min. if not, repeat and give more syrup. If you see no signs of improvement and appears comatose rush to the nearest veterinarian office for glucose by injection or I.V. to save its life.
PREVENTING LOW BLOOD SUGAR IS THE BEST TREATMENT! Monitor gum color, body temperature (toy/teacups) under 2 pounds cannot properly maintain the correct temperature and frequently get chilled, especially if they haven't had enough to eat. Feel the ears, if the ears are warm you are ok, if ears are cold then the puppy is cold. If you are not sure put your finger in its mouth, it should be very warm. If it isn't warm the pup with a towel or blanket out of the clothes dryer or a heating pad.
VERY TINY PUPPIES are best suited for someone who is home all day or can keep their pup with them the majority of the time making sure he or she is eating and kept warm. Toy/Teacups are not recommended for homes with small children or for families with large animals.
IF THE PUPPY IS OVER 3 LBS. OR 4 MONTHS OLD THERE IS LESS WORRY FOR LOW BLOOD SUGAR, BUT, STILL MUST BE WATCHED TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE EATING AND DRINKING WATER.
Death due to Hypoglycemia is not covered in the puppy’s health warranty. Hypoglycemia is preventable!!!
