I started showing dogs for my dad in 1968. At the age of 8, I made the cover of Treeing Walker Coon Hound Magazine, showing a Field and Bench Champion Treeing Walker Coon Hound, owned by my brother. Once I saw my picture on the cover of the magazine I was hooked. Then when I was 21, back in 1981, I finished 'my' first Champion, A Labrador that we called Wrangler. I branched out to smaller breeds, Yorkshire Terriers, I didn't want to just show, I wanted to be owner, breeder, handler, so I raised some of the nicest Yorkies in Texas. Ruth Jenkins, was my role model with her fabulous Wildweir, Mayfair and Clarkwyn lines. Life changed and I had children and didn't have time for dogs, my kids had other interests, Jansen was heavy into Karate, Jeran and Jana were into Rodeo. Finally, Jana decided we needed a dog again. Well in 2000, Dachshunds moved in. The rest is history. We moved from the Wylie area to East Texas, with horses and dogs. My kids are all grown now, so it's more time for me and the dogs.. I continue my animal husbandry education with seminars, classes, workshop, on-line courses and hours of research, - each day is a learning experience.
She has been riding horses since she was 3. She won her first saddle in Georgetown, TX in 2001, since then she has won numerous saddles, buckles and a little money along the way. She has been blessed to have great horses and amazing trainers and friends who have helped her along the way. Especially Lance Graves, Kathy Webb, Carlos Renato and her dad. Over the years she has made me very proud. She is an amazing daughter. Jana helps with the photography at Kando Puppies. She is attending college now.
